Reminder: Treating Family Members

Tufts Health Plan reminds its contracted practitioners that they may not treat themselves or a family member and may not receive compensation for treating themselves or an immediate family member.

Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine Regulations also prohibit a practitioner from prescribing controlled substances for his or her own use and, except in an emergency, from prescribing controlled substances to a member of his or her immediate family.

All medications required by a contracted provider or a family member should be prescribed by the individual’s treating practitioners.
