National Health Care Reform, Jim Roosevelt, Jr., President & CEO
Watertown, MA - It is our position that the vote on national health care reform provided a historic commitment to access to affordable health care for all Americans. As with Social Security in the 1930s and Medicare in the 1960s, changes will be made during the next four years to make it more fair and sustainable for all citizens. There will be challenges, but the nation will be healthier because of the passage of health care reform.
The great news is that there are now protections, already available to Massachusetts residents who receive coverage through the state’s non-profit health plans, which will do away with discrimination against those with pre-existing conditions, keep young people on their parent's insurance to age 26 and prohibit rating based on health status and prohibit lifetime maximums on coverage.
At Tufts Health Plan, we intend to conduct a very thorough analysis of the implications of the Senate bill and the reconciliation bill, including their impact on the reforms in effect in Massachusetts. In the meantime, as a Tufts Health Plan member, your health plan benefits will remain the same through your plan year.
